In early December, the Chaldean Community Foundation was named a finalist for Best-Managed Non Profits in 2019 by Crain’s Detroit Business. This recognition comes on the heels of a prosperous year for the foundation as they continue forward with their expansion and acquired The Chaldean News in the summer of 2019.

The foundations have grown exponentially over the last five years and as a result, their operations are growing to meet the continued needs of the community.

Demand for the foundation’s services continues to grow, President Martin Manna said, as behavioral health issues surface for many who faced trauma in their native land. Others need help interpreting important documents, learning to speak English, and connecting with health care, housing and jobs.

“We grew so quickly we were always just reacting and never really had a long-term plan,” President Martin Manna told Crain’s.

In addition to being recognized as one of the Best Managed Non Profits, the Foundation was once again featured in Crain’s Detroit Business for their continued efforts to ensure Chaldeans are counted in the 2020 Census.

Manna told Crain’s he is mobilizing outreach efforts and coordinating with churches and community organizations to ensure an accurate count for Census 2020.

The last Census counted around 35,000 Chaldeans, while a survey commissioned by the Chamber found the number to be around 160,000.
