Educating the Community
The CCF hosted a New Detroit Multicultural Leadership Series event on Chaldean Americans on August 23. The presentation focused on Chaldean history, faith, race, persecution, and migration to the United States.
Participants learned refugee and immigrant migration stories during a panel discussion featuring Fadi Koria and Tom Kyriakoza, who shared their personal stories as refugees and immigrants coming to the United States and acclimating to American culture.
The session also featured a lunch with traditional Chaldean food from Ishtar and Gold N’ Oven, a short discussion on types of clothing worn in villages, a small sampling of music from Raad Hakeem, and the ability to learn dances like the khigga and the bagiye.
New Detroit is a coalition of leaders working to achieve racial understanding and racial equity in Metropolitan Detroit.
