Mother of God 75th Anniversary

Mother of God Chaldean Church is 75! This milestone commemorates a beacon of faith and community in its 75th year of existence, embodying a rich tapestry of tradition, culture, and spirituality. Nestled within the heart of its community, this sacred place of worship has been a steadfast pillar for generations of Chaldean Catholics, serving as a sanctuary where families gather to celebrate their faith and heritage.

Mother of God Church was established in Southfield in 1948. The current edifice was designed in a Byzantine Revival style and completed in 1980. Two years later, the church became a Chaldean cathedral when the Eparchy of St. Thomas the Apostle was established.

Throughout its storied history, Mother of God has been a source of spiritual nourishment, offering a myriad of religious services, sacraments, and cultural events. From traditional liturgies to festive celebrations marking Chaldean holidays and milestones, the church fosters a sense of belonging and continuity for its members, bridging the gap between generations and preserving cherished customs for years to come.

Beyond its role as a place of worship, the church serves as a catalyst for social outreach and community engagement. Through charitable initiatives, educational programs, and interfaith collaborations, it extends its embrace beyond its walls, embodying the teachings of compassion and solidarity espoused by its namesake, the Mother of God. As the church commemorates its 75th anniversary, it stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith, hope, and love that continues to inspire and unite the Chaldean faithful.
