A Different Perspective
Merisa Mesumic has a different perspective than the majority of us.
In honor of January being National Braille Literacy Month, we wanted to share her perspective.
CCF’s Breaking Barriers program offers services to those with visual impairments through the B.E.A.M. (Braille, ESL, Acculturation, Mobility) Project.
Musemic has participated as a volunteer instructor for the CCF’s B.E.A.M. Project since August 2019. Her ultimate goal is to become a Braille transcriber for textbooks and other professional publications. Working with the B.E.A.M. students, she has become a trusted resource, teaching the program participants how to use screen readers, braille typewriters and more.
“I return home from volunteering, and I feel fulfilled because I have learned something new,” Musemic says. “I hope the participants are learning from me. I know I am learning a ton from them.”
Merisa Musemic has been involved in the B.E.A.M. Program since August 2019.
