St. Thomas Montessori Opens in West Bloomfield

On Saturday, December 3, 2022, St. Thomas Chaldean Catholic Church celebrated a ribbon cutting and open house with blessings from His Excellency Bishop Francis Kalabat for the new St. Thomas Montessori School. Catholic faith-based education has been desired by the faithful and clergy for many years. The outpouring of support by the parish and community accelerated the need after parents spoke up during the pandemic closures. The community was also very vocal about creating an environment supporting Chaldean culture, religious freedoms, and upholding Catholic values in education.

Known for individually paced learning and fostering independence, the Montessori Method encourages empathy, a passion for social justice, and a joy in lifelong learning. The new school, at 4500 Arline Drive, supports a strong Catholic foundation and an emergent vocabulary into the Chaldean language. “This is the first step in building Chaldean Catholic education to serve our community. By God’s grace and with the community’s support, we hope to offer Pre-K thru 8th grade Chaldean Catholic education very soon,” said Father Pierre Konja, Pastor of St. Thomas West Bloomfield.
